Translations & Localization

Overview:
Stolik Menu allows you to create a truly multilingual digital menu without needing complex external plugins like WPML or Polylang. The translation system is built-in, allowing you to manage multiple languages, currencies, and localized pages directly from the dashboard.
This guide explains how to configure languages and translate your menu content.

The Translation Interface
Managing your localized content is incredibly fast. In the Menu Editor, simply click the Choose Your Language dropdown on the left and select your target language. The interface will instantly switch to Translation Mode for that specific locale. (No extra buttons or page reloads required!)

Enabling Languages

By default, the plugin uses your WordPress site language as the Base Language. To add more languages:

  • Navigate to Stolik Menu > Languages.
  • You will see a list of over 50 available languages.
  • Use the Active toggle switch next to the language you want to enable (e.g., French, German) once you are in PRO or choose from dropdown list one extra language (Free).

Free vs PRO: The Free version allows the Base Language + 1 Extra Language. The PRO version supports Unlimited Languages.

Currency Settings

Each language can have its own currency.

  • Auto-Assignment: When you activate a language (e.g., pl_PL for Polish), the plugin automatically assigns the default currency (PLN).
  • Manual Override: You can change the currency code (e.g., form EUR to USD) directly in the currency column if needed.

Creating Language Pages

For visitors to access a specific language version of your menu, you need a dedicated page.

  1. On the Languages screen, locate the language you just activated.
  2. Click the Publish button in the “Status” column.
  3. The plugin will automatically:
    – Create a new WordPress Page (e.g., your-site.com/menu-fr-fr/).
    – Insert the correct shortcode [stolik_menu lang="fr_FR"].
    – Link this page to the language switcher system.

You can view these pages by clicking the Preview button or finding them in your main WordPress > Pages list.

Translating Menu Content

Once languages are active, the Menu Editor adapts to allow input for each locale on dropdown list.

Translating Dishes (Items)

  1. Go to Stolik Menu > Menu Editor > Choose Your Language > Manage Language > Translation Mode.
  2. Click on any dish to edit it.
  3. You will now see tabs at the top of the editing panel (e.g., English, French, Polish).
  4. Click a tab to enter the translation for:
    – Item Name
    – Description
    – Price (You can set different prices for different currencies/regions).

Note: Changes are saved automatically as you type or when you close the item.

Translating Categories & System Labels

Stolik Menu ensures your entire frontend is fully localized, right down to the navigation buttons.

  1. On the left side of the Translation Mode screen, locate the Categories to Translate section and click the Translate button.
  2. Enter the translated names for each of your menu categories. (Note: If you leave a field empty, it will safely fall back to the base language name).
  3. Translate the System Label: At the bottom of the category list, you will find the “All / All Dishes – system label”. This controls the text for the default category filter button on your live menu. For example, you can translate it to ‘Tous’ for French or ‘Wszystko’ for Polish.
  4. Click Update Translation to save.

Translating Menu Title

On the same Translation page, you can also translate the main “Menu Title” (e.g., change “Our Menu” to “Notre Carte”) in the provided input field.

How Visitors Switch Languages

There are three ways a visitor sees the correct language:

  1. Direct Link: If you share the link your-site.com/menu-fr-fr/, they see the French version.
  2. QR Code Auto-Redirect: If enabled in QR Settings, scanning the code will automatically redirect the user to the language matching their phone’s settings.
  3. Shortcode: You can manually place a menu in any language anywhere on your site using: [stolik_menu lang="es_ES"]
